  CAILLON E. (France)
STEREO PLATE CAMERA
Panoramic model

probably a SCOPEA
variation

Année / year c1920
Serial # 3613.
This is probably a Caillon camera : design and some details (focusing system and trim) are very similar to the Scopea model ;
Gitzo shutter (Gitzo was founded in 1917 by Arsene Gitzhoven, which gave its name to the company. In the beginning, the company manufactured wooden supports adapted to the majority of the cameras manufactured in Europe. In the middle of the Twenties, the company started to produce its own cameras 6,5 X 9, 6,5 X 11 and even 24 X 36, the Gilax series. Gitzo gave up the manufacture of cameras to concentrate its know-how on the precision accessories  such as shutters, flash adapters, timers, cable release,...).
It's entirely wooden made and seems to be an advanced camera. Leather covering.
Lenses are Krauss Paris Tessar Zeiss f4.5/85mm # 156371 and 156360.
Coupled  apertures setting from f4.5 to f36.
Shutter speeds 25-50-100-B-T. Provision for cable release.
Focuses by buttons on side from 1.10m to infinity.
Front panel can be verticaly shifted for perspective correction purpose.
Tripod sockets on top, bottom and side -  bubble level on top.
Large folding sport finder on top.
The back panel wich maintains the groud-glass holder can be removed and a magazine back can be installed.
The camera can be used for Panoramic exposures : just set one lens in center position by sliding the lensboard (the inner septum collapses automatically).

CARL ZEISS JENA (East Germany)

WERRA 1a Année / year 1958 (introduced 1958, this camera is probably from 1959 regarding the lens serial number).
SN 360891 on body, 5960160 on lens
Werra was a sort of a unique camera which was developped and released by the lens manufacturer Carl-Zeiss Jena.
The noteworthy feature of this camera is the way of winding the film : there is no film wind lever, the film is winded with the ring at the base of the lens barrel : turning this ring clockwise about 60 degrees transports the film to the next exposure, and in the same time cocks the shutter. Winding operation is very smooth and easy.
One other feature of this camera is its unique design : streamlined knobless top ; buttons and other features around the camera body were omitted as much as possible; very impressive body design, remember it was in 1955.
Another interesting particularity is that the lens hood can be used as a lens shade. These accessories (lens hood and cap) are an integral part of the camera and must be present to consider the camera complete.
Various models were manufactured from around 1954 to 1961 under the "Werra" name .
This one is an earlier model with olive green vulcanite covering (later models are black). The winding ring is covered with green vulcanite and there is a bright-frame finder, so I assume this is the model 1a (earlier model of 1954 has milled aluminium ring).
Camera type : 35mm leaf-shutter camera
Camera body : aluminum diecast
Lens : Jena T (Tessar) f2.8/50mm
Shutter : 1-250, B. No name on it (Vebur, Prestor or Synchro Compur ?).
Focusing : rotating helicoid, visual distance estimation. Closest focusing distance : 0.8m.
